Are you using point-of-sale (POS) or website credit card transactions when selling firearms? Small businesses are a target for hackers attempting to illegally collect payment data. You should know that VISA has implemented new data security requirements. Effective January 31, 2017, according to VISA, “Level 4 merchants must only use Payment Card Industry (PCI)-certified Qualified Integrations and Reseller (QIR) professionals for point-of-sale application and terminal installation and integration.”

This means that as a small business (fewer than 20,000 e-commerce or 1 million VISA transactions per year), when implementing a POS system that is connected to the internet, you must only use PCI QIR professionals. Using certified organizations helps improve security by ensuring that payment applications and terminals are installed to minimize fraud.

Also, your compliance must be validated annually unless you participate in the Technology Innovation Program (TIP). TIP recognizes merchants that take action to prevent fraud by investing in certain secure technology. Click here to get the details.

While BASM is not a PCI QIR organization, we can streamline your firearms transactions with Easy Bound Book™. Our electronic A&D software can help you easily record sales transactions, keeping you in compliance with ATF regulations.
